Monarch Pal Journeys Monarchs across Canada and the United States are beginning their astounding migration to Mexico. Join us for a newly emerged and equally astounding MTN journey!! Over the last number of years MTN has brought together some of the most amazing individuals from across Mexico, United States and Canada. Some of those individuals teach in some amazing classrooms and we would like the MTN journey to continue amongst our classrooms. Here's how Monarch-Pal Journeys will emerge: Two same-grade classrooms from across MTN will be connected via MTN. Those classes will become 'monarch-pals' and will begin their own journey of getting to know each other. Each class will be responsible for communicating through 'snail-mail' at least four times during the school year. The 'assignments' will include: 1) by the end of October Send symbolic paper butterflies Be as creative and fun as you like however remember you are paying for the postage. For classes of grades one to eight include a class list with first names only. You may then match up the children between the two classes ... teachers may email each other as to how they would like to do this. 2) by the end of November Write a getting-to-know-you letter and some sort of description of monarch studies (written by each child or by the class as a whole for younger students). 3) December / January Classes will write about the celebrations that happen within their schools, communities, families. 4) April Create and share postcards of your school and/or community. For example, you may have your students draw a significant building in your community (City Hall) and write Greetings from Kingston! Write a short note on the back.
Of course, additional communication through email or 'snail-mail' is strongly encouraged. Towards the end of the year you may want to send back the paper butterflies you were originally mailed or you may create the off-spring generation and send those to your monarch-pals. All costs incurred will be the responsibility of the teachers involved. Please communicate with your 'monarch-pal' teacher and make this project work for the two of you. The information contained here is meant as a guide or a road-map for your journey we don't want anyone getting lost. This is a fun and educational experience for you and your students.
